The Complete cbdDR Quality Framework
Quality in the cannabinoid industry is not a marketing claim — it is a verifiable set of practices, systems, and commitments that can be independently confirmed. This page documents cbdDR's complete quality framework: what we do, why we do it, and how you can verify it.
Standard 1: In-House Formulation by a Botanical Scientist
What This Means
Every cbdDR product is formulated in-house by Matthew Scott, a botanical scientist with hands-on cannabinoid formulation experience dating to 2014. "In-house formulation" means we develop our own cannabinoid specifications, our own extraction and blending processes, and our own quality control protocols — not a contract manufacturer's.
Why It Matters
The majority of CBD brands purchase pre-made bulk extract from contract manufacturers and apply their own label — a practice called white-labeling. White-label brands have limited visibility into how their product was formulated, limited ability to control batch-to-batch consistency, and limited accountability for what's actually in the bottle. In-house formulation is the prerequisite for every other quality standard on this page.
How to Verify
Ask any cannabinoid brand to describe their formulation process in detail: who developed the formulation, what cannabinoid specifications were used, how raw materials are tested before use, and how in-process cannabinoid concentrations are verified. A brand that formulates in-house can answer these questions specifically. A white-label brand cannot.
Standard 2: Standardized Cannabinoid Concentrations
What This Means
Every cbdDR product is engineered to deliver defined, consistent cannabinoid concentrations in every bottle — verified by independent laboratory testing on every batch. "Standardized" means the cannabinoid profile you see on the label is the cannabinoid profile in the bottle, within a tight tolerance, every time.
Specific Concentration Targets
- 1000mg CBD-Rich Tincture: ~830mg CBD + ~57mg each CBG, CBN, CBC per 30ml bottle (±10%)
- 2500mg CBD-Rich Tincture: ~2080mg CBD + ~140mg each CBG, CBN, CBC per 30ml bottle (±10%)
- 800mg CBG-Rich Tincture: 650mg CBG + 50mg each CBD, CBC, CBN per 30ml bottle (±10%)
- 800mg CBN-Rich Tincture: 650mg CBN + 50mg each CBD, CBC, CBG per 30ml bottle (±10%)
- 800mg CBC-Rich Tincture: 650mg CBC + 50mg each CBD, CBG, CBN per 30ml bottle (±10%)
- 2500mg Topical Balms: 2500mg broad spectrum CBD per jar (±10%)
Why It Matters
Without standardization, cannabinoid concentrations can vary significantly between batches — meaning the dose you establish in week one may be completely different from the dose in week four. A 2017 JAMA study found 69% of CBD products were mislabeled, with concentrations varying by as much as 50% from label claims. Standardization is the only protection against this variability.
How to Verify
Compare the cannabinoid potency results across multiple batch COAs in our Batch Database. Consistent results across batches confirm standardization. Significant variation indicates poor quality control.
Standard 3: ISO/IEC 17025-Accredited Third-Party Testing
What This Means
Every batch of every cbdDR product is tested by an independent laboratory holding ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation — the international standard for laboratory competence issued by accreditation bodies including A2LA (American Association for Laboratory Accreditation). ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation verifies that the laboratory's testing methods are scientifically sound, its equipment is calibrated, and its results are reliable and reproducible.
What We Test For
- Cannabinoid Potency — full cannabinoid profile including CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC, THC, THCA, and minor cannabinoids
- Heavy Metals — lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium (hemp bioaccumulates heavy metals from soil)
- Pesticides — comprehensive panel of 60+ agricultural chemical residues
- Residual Solvents — extraction solvent residues including ethanol, butane, benzene
- Microbials — total yeast and mold, total aerobic count, E. coli, Salmonella, Aspergillus
Why It Matters
Potency-only testing tells you what's in the product but not whether it's safe to consume. Full-panel testing is the only way to verify that a product is free from heavy metals, pesticide residues, solvent contamination, and microbial hazards. ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation ensures the testing results are scientifically valid — not just a number on a document.
How to Verify
Visit the accreditation body's website (e.g., a2la.org) and search for the laboratory listed on your COA. Accreditation status, scope, and expiration date are publicly searchable. Then verify your specific batch COA in our Batch Database.
Standard 4: Batch-Specific COA Publication
What This Means
Every COA published in cbdDR's Batch Database references a specific batch or lot number that corresponds to a specific production run. When you purchase a cbdDR product, you can match the batch number on your label to the COA in our database and verify the exact test results for your specific bottle.
Why It Matters
A COA from a different batch tells you nothing about your product. Cannabinoid concentrations, contaminant levels, and safety parameters can vary between batches. Generic or reference COAs — published once and applied to all products indefinitely — are a common industry practice that provides no meaningful quality assurance. Batch-specific COAs are the only form of transparency that actually protects the consumer.
How to Verify
Find the batch or lot number on your product label. Search for that number in our Batch Database. Your COA should appear with matching batch identification. If you cannot find your batch, contact us directly at contact@cbddr.com.
Standard 5: Zero THC — Verified Every Batch
What This Means
Every cbdDR product is formulated to deliver zero THC. "Zero THC" means THC is reported as ND (non-detected) — below the laboratory's limit of detection — on every batch COA. This is verified by independent laboratory testing on every production batch, not assumed based on formulation intent.
Why It Matters
THC non-detection is critical for consumers who are subject to drug testing, who have sensitivity to THC, or who require absolute certainty about THC content for personal, professional, or legal reasons. Formulation intent alone is insufficient — only independent laboratory verification on every batch provides the certainty that zero THC products require.
How to Verify
Open any COA in our Batch Database. Locate the Δ94-THC and THCA rows in the potency panel. Both should read ND (non-detected). The laboratory's limit of detection (LOD) should be stated on the COA.
Standard 6: No Disease Treatment Claims
What This Means
cbdDR does not make disease treatment claims. We do not state or imply that our products diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. All content on this website — including product descriptions, Science Journal articles, and educational pages — is written to describe mechanisms and present peer-reviewed evidence without making therapeutic claims that exceed what the evidence supports.
Why It Matters
Disease treatment claims for hemp-derived CBD products are prohibited by the FDA and are scientifically unsupported for most applications. Brands that make these claims are either uninformed about regulatory requirements or are deliberately misleading consumers. cbdDR's commitment to evidence-based communication means we present what the science shows — including its limitations — without overstating what our products can do.
